Interviewer: "We have Dean Matthews here with us, live via video call. He is appearing in the Morning Star Productions debut series, Afterlife. Thank you for joining us Dean."
Dean Matthews: “The pleasure is all mine Lana.”
Lana Winters: “So, tell us a little about yourself?”
Dean Matthews: “Well, I’m a second generation wrestler with a half sister also in the business. I have a kind of history with the man who is moving into a different career and figured, with a series of knee injuries, maybe it’s time to shift into a possible new career myself.”
Lana Winters: “Acting does seem like a good career pivot after a career in front of the cameras. What made you choose this project?”
Dean Matthews: “As I mentioned, I have a kind of history with Michael Rivers. It’s involved, complicated and a little weird so we’ll just leave it at that. When It was announced after his accident that he was moving into this medium I thought….why not try and help him succeed? Keep things from getting too complicated...And here we are.”
Lana Winters: “Alright, that’s fair. What can you tell us about this new project?”
Dean Matthews: “Well, the official synopsis went out recently and as it says….Afterlife takes place five years after the world has ended to a type of zombie outbreak.”
Lana Winters: “Zombies huh?”
Dean Matthews: “Yes, but these aren’t like any of the zombies you see in the current universe. They don't shamble around aimlessly. When they see something they consider to be alive….they go after it. Full speed and with lightning fast reflexes. And to make matters worse, head shots don’t kill them.”
Lana Winters: “They sprint, are more reactionary than the average zombie AND headshots don’t kill them? Then how do those who live in the world take them down?”
Dean Matthews: “There is a little spot here...at the back of the skull where the brain connects to the body. That has to be severed, be it with a bullet or another weapon type.”
Lana Winters: “Is there a reason they are so different than the Zombie’s we are used to seeing?”
Dean Matthews: “Yes and it will be explained over the course of the show. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so let’s just say it has to do with stopping any signals going from the brain into the body. Even if the brain is rendered useless, the body will continue to function as long as it can be given commands.”
Lana Winters: “Alright, I can respect that. So, on the show you portray Jackson Mawl. One of the survivors in the world. Tell us about him?”
Dean Matthews: “He’s more than just a survivor Lana. He’s the leader of one of the three communities in the part of the world where the season takes place, a place called Hessberg.”
Lana Winters: “So he’s one of the leaders?”
Dean Matthews: “Correct. Not much is known about his past right away but it's clear he has some kind of history with the deceased husband of the star Abigail Ryder. More of that will get revealed as the show goes on. He’s kind of like a father figure to those in the Hessberg camp. The kind of guy who would go out of his way for his people.”
Lana Winters: “Sounds like a heck of a guy. Anything about shooting the project jump out at you? Anything that was cool or weird?”
Dean Matthews: “There was a scene in episode two with Samantha Hamilton that a lot of people may think was awkward, considering how attractive she is but it came to us naturally. We laughed about it after they yelled ‘cut’.”
Lana Winters: “Sparks flying between the two characters?!”
Dean Matthews: “I’ll leave a lot of that to the imagination. Let’s just say that that particular shoot was interesting.”
Lana Winters: “Alright! Anything else jump out at you?”
Dean Matthews: “Well, there is a scene late in the season. I can’t go in to details or everyone involved will skin me alive but...let’s just say that it was the scariest thing I’ve ever filmed. I can’t even imagine how it is gonna come off during the episode. Anything else you’ll have to tune in on the 28th and find out!”
Lana Winters: “Well, Dean thank you for joining me. We’ll see you on the 28th for Afterlife’s debut episode, Rebirth! This is Lana Winters, thank you and I’ll see you all soon!”
