Lana Winters: "We have Samantha Hamilton here with us, live via video call. She is appearing in the Morning Star Productions debut series, Afterlife. Thank you for joining us Samantha...or...do you prefer Sam?"
Samantha Hamilton: “Either works, honestly. People have tried to use way worse names to call me. Hell, you can use Titaness if that’s somehow easier.”
Lana Winters: "I think Sam will be fine. So, thank you for joining us Sam. Tell us a little about yourself?"
Samantha Hamilton: “The simplest way to describe me is I’m a bit of a punk plus a rebel. I’ve had that attitude since I was a kid and it’s not likely ever gonna vanish. Contrary to how I may seem at a first glance, I don’t actually like flipping my ‘bitch switch’ on. I can be sweet and caring, but well ... You get what you give. If you’re a bastard to me, I’ll gladly return that favor, especially in a wrestling ring.”
Lana Winters: "A lot of wrestlers seem to be moving in this direction, in front of one camera or another I guess. So, tell us about this new project your working on?"
Samantha Hamilton: “I’m going to be starring in Morning Star Production’s series ‘Afterlife’. I’m not sure how much I can reveal, but I can easily say this much. I think it’s way better than other similar shows like ‘The Walking Dead’. The reason why probably would imply a spoiler though, so gonna keep that to myself.”
Lana Winters: Alright, I can respect that. I am told that you are playing a woman named Jema Delacriox. What can you tell us about her?"
Samantha Hamilton: “She’s a lot like me in certain regards, and it’s exactly why I eagerly agreed to try out for the role. She doesn’t take crap from anyone. She has a small handful of people she genuinely listens to and respects. One of the most major differences comes in her police experiences. I never once went down that path, but my ability to adapt - along with some additional factors - has helped me out. I absolutely love Jema and am ecstatic to be portraying her for this series.”
Lana Winters: "She's the head of security and second in command of one of the communities where those who have survived have taken refuge right?"
Samantha Hamilton: “Correct, yes.”
Lana Winters: "There are rumors swirling about a possible romance between your character and the leader of the community where she lives, Jackson Mawl played by the son of a wrestling icon David Matthews, Dean. Is there truth to this?"
Samantha Hamilton: "Just our characters, yes."
Sam flashes a sly wink.
Samantha Hamilton: "No, but for real, fun as the scene in the second episode was? I'm keeping it on a strictly professional note. Even if only briefly, I have spoken to his wife Jessica. I wouldn't really try to get between their actual lives. In fact, I'm glad she's supportive of her husband for being in that role, because otherwise? That probably would have been pretty damn uncomfortable for a lot of the filming crew and many others. Anyway, we do, yeah. No sense in hiding that; it'd get found out sooner than later, so there you are. Free spoiler."
Lana Winters: "I'm glad that it didn't cause any issues for you with his wife or your own private life. Dean did mention to me that you two laughed about it afterwards."
Samantha Hamilton: "Damn straight we did. I, at least, feel pretty sure everyone was waiting for the 'inevitable slap' after that scene was cut. So when it never arrived ... well, no one saw that coming. We even had to look right at them and remind everybody this was literally just acting. But yeah. I keep in constant contact with both my own husbands. They knew this scene would come up and were perfectly fine as long as it stayed between Jema and Jackson. And ... that's a perfectly fair request, as far as I'm concerned. Relationships tend to be a part of series nowadays, so it was inevitable there would be at least one in 'Afterlife'. I just happened to be one half of that pairing."
Lana Winters: "Speaking of relationships in series's like this. Since you find yourself as half of one of them, with another one we aren't being told about just yet, but do you think it will make it harder on one of you to act out the scenes when the other inevitably dies? This is a end of the world type series and the chances are high either Jackson or Jema are going to die. Are you looking forward to acting that loss out or dreading it?"
Samantha Hamilton: "I'm .... a bit of both, to be honest. On one hand, it's only our characters who die, thankfully. But with all the time and effort I've been putting into Jema - particularly when she's around Jackson - it is definitely gonna be emotional. But on the flip side? It's like putting your name on a wrestling contract in that regard. I knew perfectly well what exactly I auditioned and signed up for. You have to consider any and everything that is possible can, and might, happen in any particular series. Death, unfortunately, is a pretty common sight in most shows. Whether it's someone with a minor or major role, it happens more often than not. With all of this being said, however, I am looking forward to being able to improve my acting skills. Hence the 'both' response."
Lana Winters: "One last question. Knowing what Jema's background is and how tough you see her, how would you rate her chances of surviving until the very end? One to ten."
Samantha Hamilton: "Hmmm ... definitely higher than lower. At least a seven, if not eight. I'd love for her to endure till the very end, but that much isn't up to me. No matter what's decided, though, I'll make damn sure to keep embodying her spirit and personality throughout the entire show."
Lana Winters: An 8! Nice! Well, Ms. Hamilton, thank you for taking the time to speak to us and we'll see you on the 28th when Afterlife debuts!"
