John is the central character of the show. He comes home from his three years of mandatory military service in the Central elite to live in the unspecified location where he meets with Leann, his neighbor. The two hit it off and begin eating when her live in brother is revealed to have a very serious heart condition and needs to have it surgically repaired, which of course not being in the upper elite of society he can't without a pass. To help her brother John agrees to take on The City in order to earn a pass for him.
The stories follows John from before his arrival in The City and throughout The City itself as he fights to survive the 30 day challenge. He is a quite and average man who no one knows actually spend his time in the military as a Central Military Ghost. Paramilitary trained to deal with those who rebel against the government. He is trusting and gentle, unless he is pushed to far and then a switch in him flips and he becomes a remorseless killing machine.
